The Modern Solution
The Dentists at Adams Dental are competent with all facts of implant dentistry and these revolutionary dental implants are today’s best alternative to natural teeth. Implants are fully functional replacement teeth that allow you to eat what you want, when you want, and to have a natural healthy and confident smile.
Implants are medical-grade titanium screws which are placed into the jawbone as a substitute for a missing tooth. They integrate naturally with the bone (a process called osseointegration) and a crown, bridge or fixed denture is then fitted to replace the missing teeth. Implants provide a stable foundation to support your replacement teeth.
An implant may replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or all teeth
There are many advantages in receiving implants. Benefits of implants can be categorised by aesthetic, functional and lifestyle improvements.
Patients will:
- Dramatically improve their smile
- Regain the ability to choose foods that they enjoy
- Restore chewing function for easy digestion
- Speak without impediment
- Restore facial structure
- Enjoy an active lifestyle
- Live with confidence
Treatment Phases
Receiving an implant is usually a two-stage process, in some cases an immediate implant maybe possible depending on your individual circumstances.
The Two Stage Process
On your first appointment a thorough dental examination and consultation is performed, where X-rays and impressions are taken. A treatment plan can then be tailored to meet your individual needs.
The dental implant is placed by a specialist oral surgeon which is a relatively short and simple procedure. A healing cap, or a temporary crown or bridge, is placed in situ while the implant integrates with the bone. The healing time depends on the bone quality, quantity and your clinical situation.
After the healing period an impression is taken at our practice for the final crown restoration which is constructed and put in place.
Immediate Implants
Immediate implants are a relatively new procedure and are not suitable for every patient. They have many advantages and can provide you with an aesthetic tooth restoration instantly while giving you immediate function. The success rates are similar to those of conventional implants. A thorough consultation is needed to decide which implant system is best for you.
Caring for your implant is just as important as caring for your natural teeth. All patients should follow a regular at home routine of brushing twice a day with a soft bristled toothbrush and flossing at least once a day. Other cleaning aids may be recommended as cleaning dental implants can be slightly different from cleaning your own teeth.
Although implants are constructed from titanium and replacement teeth are porcelain, your gums and surrounding natural teeth are still vulnerable to gum disease. Regular appointments with your dental hygienist are essential.
